There was tension at the 55 Battalion Bonny Camp, Lagos on Thursday following the grumbling by 200 soldiers over the alleged non-payment of their three months mission allowances. 200 soldiers who were part of the 800 troops that just returned from a peace keeping mission in Darfur, Sudan. The soldiers were redeployed again to the North-East to join the battle against insurgents.

The contingent is said to be led by Lt. Col. H. Dasuki, who unconfirmed sources said, is related to the immediate former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.).
They are expected to leave Lagos for Maiduguri on Friday (today).

It was learnt the soldiers refused to proceed to Maiduguri except their allowances for the Sudan operation were paid.

This, they argued, would enable them to leave money behind for their families. The issue had not been resolved as of the time of filling the report.

A military source said such posting without payment of allowances was not acceptable to the military high command as it was contrary to a directive from the Defence headquarters.

Reacting to the subtle protest, the Public Relations Officer of the 81 Division, Lt. Col. Kingsley Samuel, said that the soldiers who returned from foreign mission in Sudan were not involved in such a protest.

He said that that there was no grumbling whatsoever in the Bonny Camp.

He said, “There is nothing like grumbling in that battalion. It is not true.”

Wizkid featured on Vogue as Nigeria’s Best-Dressed pop-star

Wizkid

The 25-year-old superstar had a chat with Vogue.com via Skype and he shares his shopping habits, his favourite brands and more.

According to Vogue.com, Wizkid “has become almost as known for his trendsetting style as his sound, and his is a thoughtful and fun approach to wardrobe: clean lines and minimalism; a mix of fresh streetwear with traditional Nigerian clothes; and bold, bright accessories.”

See excerpts from his interview below.

On shopping in Lagos: I have local tailors out there who make me traditional stuff. So I get material from Lagos, and I have them make me pieces. I mix them up with whatever I wear. I have a whole lot of tailors. The fabrics are from different parts of Nigeria. We have the tie and dye from the western part of Nigeria. We get stuff from the north. I mix it up. When I’m back home, all I wear is African fabric. All I really rock is the traditional stuff. That’s the in thing right now. That’s really coming back. Back in the day, our parents used to wear it every day, and they still do, but now it’s cool for wee young ones to wear it. It’s amazing. We’re doing it differently. We’re having it a little bit more fitted. We have styles on it, embroideries and stuff, by local people, made by hand, designed on it.
On Lagos style: Lagos style is fresh and different. Even with the tailors, they get very innovative with their stuff, with the cuts. When my parents used to make the traditional wares, it was a little bit baggy. But now the tailors are able to infuse the European style, making it slim-fit. Lagos style is different, man. Innovative.
On his traditional outfits: I design everything myself, and I get them to make it. I do a little sketch; sometimes I just sit down with a tailor and describe what I want. Sometimes we go back and forth, like, for days, trying to get it right. Sometimes it’ll take a day to make it, sometimes three, four days. I have a lot of tailors. If I want something made in 12 hours, it will be made in 12 hours.
On his style growing up: Growing up in Lagos, I wasn’t fortunate enough to get the fresh stuff when it was new. There was this place we used to go to find stuff that had been shipped from America, like secondhand clothes. I used to rock a lot of Reebok, just a lot of sporty stuff.
On launching a clothing line: I’m hoping to release a clothing line after my EP, planned for April. It’s going to be tracksuits, T-shirts, hats, and African attire as well. I’ll have a special line for traditional [clothes] with my tailors. Taking Africa to the world.

Pope Francis says Donald Trump's behaviour 'is not Christian', Trump fires back saying Pope's comments are disgraceful

Pope Francis has publicly denounced Donald Trump – billionaire businessman and aspiring Republican U.S. Presidential candidate.
The Pope said
“A person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not building bridges, is not Christian. This is not the gospel,”
This is in reference to one of Trump’s proposed plans to build a wall between the U.S. and its southern neighbor Mexico, due to thousands of illegal immigrants who enter from the country.

According to reporters who were on the plane with the pontiff. The pope stressed that he was not suggesting whom American voters should vote in the election:
"I am not going to get involved in that. I would only say that this man is not Christian if he has said things like that."he said

Trump has reacted to the news, calling it “disgraceful” for the Pope to question his Christianity. CNN reports,
“No leader, especially a religious leader, should have the right to question another man’s religion or faith,” he said in statement. Trump added that the government in Mexico, where Francis spent the past five days, has “made many disparaging remarks about me to the Pope.”
“If and when the Vatican is attacked by ISIS, which as everyone knows is ISIS’s ultimate trophy, I can promise you that the Pope would have only wished and prayed that Donald Trump would have been president,” Trump said.
By Thursday evening, the GOP candidate had softened his tone.
“I don’t like fighting with the Pope,” Trump said at a GOP town hall debate in South Carolina hosted by CNN. “I like his personality; I like what he represents.”
He added that he thinks Francis’ remarks were “much nicer” than the media reported and that the Pope had been misled by Mexican officials.
Trump also said that the Pope has an “awfully big wall” himself at the Vatican.
Trump’s social media advisor echoed these sentiments, with this Tweet

“The economy is bad. It is obvious” Wole Soyinka asks Buhari to Hold Emergency Economic Conference

According to Vanguard, Nobel Prize Winner Wole Soyinka asked President Muhammadu Buhari “to convene an emergency economic conference for experts to brainstorm on the way forward and future of the economy.”
“I agree with those who say the economy is bad. It is obvious and it is so bad. I think the Presidency should call an emergency economic conference where experts will be enlightened.
“We really need an emergency economic conference, bringing experts together to march the nation forward. I think the economy is not encouraging. Quite frankly, I think most economists will agree with this.”
He also asked Nigerians to be patient,
“Don’t wait to see a bonanza economy in the next few months to a year. Recovery is going to take time. But at the same time, we have to rely on the objective analysis of experts to tell the government when it gets bad, which might compound the problem and ultimately left the people as victims.
“Government, for me, is a very complicated matter and there is a lot of debris to be cleared. Maybe, we need to be a little bit more patient to see what the administration will do.”
